Tunu Wangui

Psychologist

From a young age, I have been driven by a passion for understanding the human mind and fostering mental well-being. Growing up, I was always curious about the complexities of human emotions and behaviors. This curiosity coupled with my own difficult experiences growing up, blossomed into a career in counseling psychology, where I could delve deeper into these mysteries and help others navigate their mental health journeys.

I hold a degree in Bsc. (Counseling Psychology) from Moi University and have close to 5 years of experience. My professional journey began at Kenyatta National Hospital where I did my practicum. I especially enjoyed my rotation at the Youth Centre where  I started working with high school students. I would educate them on different topics and have individual sessions with them. That was a life changing experience as I got to discover my unique gift of working with young people. This, and rotation in other critical departments and wards within the hospital, reinforced my commitment to making a difference in people's lives through compassionate and evidence-based psychological support.

Joining I Am Heshima, an organization empowering youth through education, aligns perfectly with my belief in the transformative power of education. I decided to be a part of this organization because I believe that by promoting mental health and emotional resilience of the young people, we can contribute to their personal growth, academic success and overall well-being. I am more than excited to be a part of a team that shares my commitment to creating a positive and nurturing environment for the next generation.

Beyond my professional work, my hopes and dreams revolve around creating a world where mental health is prioritized and everyone has access to the help they need. I aspire to continue growing in my field, contributing to advocating for mental health awareness through YouTube and a podcast. My dream is to see a world where mental health is understood, respected and integrated into every aspect of life."
